Robert Ash is a member of the Ann Arbor Huron High School Music Department where he serves as the Director of Bands. Mr. Ash conducts the Huron Symphony Band, Concert Band Green, the Rhythm Rat Marching Band, and the Rhythm Rat Jazz Orchestra, and co-directs Concert Band Gold and Varsity Band.
An alumnus of Central Michigan University, Mr. Ash earned bachelors’ degrees in Music Education and Music Theory and Composition while studying saxophone with Prof. John Nichol, composition with Dr. David Gillingham, and conducting with Prof. John Williamson, with his work at CMU culminating in the prestigious Presser Scholarship. He was awarded a master’s degree in Music Composition from The Florida State University where he studied with renowned composers Dr. Ladislav Kubik and Pulitzer Prize winner Dr. Ellen Zwillich. His continued conducting studies include acceptance to the prestigious Michigan State University and the University of Michigan Conducting Symposiums where he has had the honor of working with Dr. Kevin Sedetole, Prof. Jerry Junkin, Dr. Kevin Noe, Prof. Michael Haithcock, and Prof. Craig Kirchhoff
As a saxophonist, Mr. Ash has presented performances at the North American Saxophone Alliance’s National Convention, and was twice a semi-finalist at the National Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. His compositions for Wind Band have earned him national recognition from the Music Teacher’s National Association, the National Band Association Young Composer’s Mentoring Project, and publication from C. Alan Publications.
Mr. Ash continues a long tradition of superior performance at Huron. During his tenure, the Symphony Bands, Concert Bands, and Jazz Ensembles have received consistent superior ratings at MSBOA District and State festivals and have received many state and national honors. The Huron Jazz Ensemble was honored in 2018 as the Outstanding (1st place) Ensemble at the Central Michigan University Jazz Weekend Festival, the Outstanding Ensemble at Western Michigan University Jazz Invitational Festival in 2019, and was chosen as one of 12 high school jazz ensembles in the nation invited to perform at the Swing Central Jazz Festival in Savannah, GA in 2020. The Huron Symphony Band was selected to perform as one of the featured ensembles at the 2020 Michigan Music Conference and was honored to be selected to perform Maslanka’s Symphony No. 4 at Carnegie Hall in 2022.
Mr. Ash is proud to serve as an active member of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association as the District XII Vice President of Band and Orchestra Festival as well as the State Committee Chair for Music Commissioning. He is also an active member of the American School Band Director's Association. Mr. Ash resides in Ann Arbor with his incredibly supportive wife Camille and son Xander.

Evaristo Rodriguez is a native of Belleville, Michigan and an alumnus of Belleville High School and the University of Michigan. While at. U of M, he performed with the Michigan Marching Band, the U of M Concert and Symphony Bands, as well as the University Philharmonia and Symphony Orchestras.
After completing a Bachelors in Music Education and Euphonium Performance, as well as a Masters in Euphonium Performance, Mr. Rodriguez began a teaching career that has taken him through Virginia, Georgia, Texas, and finally back to his home state. In addition to receiving top ratings in all of the above states, his students have performed at The Georgia Music Educators Convention, The Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, Bands of America Grand National Marching Band Finals, and the National Concert Band Festival. He’s also proud to have had private students accepted to schools of music at The University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, The University of Georgia, Indiana University, and West Virginia University.
Mr. Rodriguez joined AAPS in 2017 as the Co-Director at Scarlett Middle School, as well as the fifth grade band instructor for Carpenter Elementary and Mitchell Elementary. He very much appreciates the support of all his AAPS colleagues.
Outside of teaching, Mr. Rodriguez can usually be found spending time with his wife Colleen and their two sons. He also enjoys water/snow skiing, hiking and traveling.
